I love flickr. While I’m more consistent about posting pictures on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter these days than flickr, I still love its archiving functionality. I don’t think I realized until about a year ago (after using flickr for 3 years) that I could view my archives on flickr so easily and that they were organized by either the date the pictures were taken or by the date I posted them on flickr. Through the magic that is flickr, I can see photos that it knows I took in 2003 even though they weren’t posted until 2008 or so. I love this!
So today I decided to look at some old pictures taken in the month of September to see what was going on in our lives at this time of year. And it was so much fun! Here are a few pictures I found:
We always used to take pictures of Jenny in her Steelers outfits at the beginning of football season. She liked it – can’t you tell?
This picture always makes me laugh. This was shortly after we painted Jenny’s room pink and Reagan climbed out of her crib for the first time and started sleeping with Jenny. One night when I went to check on them before I went to sleep, I found Reagan this way. Apparently it didn’t disturb Jenny’s sleep because she looks quite peaceful in the background.
Jenny was heading to her first Level 1 gymnastics class I believe, in 2008. I’m not sure why the front door needed to be open behind her.
Reagan took a dance class that same year. I don’t think I pointed out that she should turn her feet out – she probably learned that in her class.
I think I’d blocked out the fact that we had hamsters. Hamsters we were assured were the same sex when we purchased two (one for each of our girls). We learned otherwise when hamster babies appeared in their cage.
This was a cellphone picture I took of the girls on the swings when I was standing above them on our deck. I love this picture even though it’s blurry.
A visit to the park, just last year, to take pictures of a 9 month old Brinky.
I love looking at old memories captured, don’t you?

And because I’m running short on time this week and one of the pictures above was taken with a cellphone, I’m also linking up with Greta and Julie for #iPPP:
My girls head back to school two weeks from today. This week is the last week they’ll be around to really relax and enjoy their lazy summer days. Next week will be busy with school open houses and orientations and supply shopping. Plus we’ll force them to wake up early to prepare themselves for the early wake-ups the following week. So today, before the back to school grind really gets into full gear, seems like a perfect day to review pictures of my girls on the first day of school from years past. I did the same thing last year, but I think it’s fun to repeat every year with a new picture added.
2006: Jenny on her first day of school, heading to Kindergarten. (Wasn’t she so tiny??)
2008: Jenny heading to 2nd grade, Reagan looking sad that she’s not starting school yet.
(And yes, I know I skipped 2007. I swear she went to school that year, but I can’t find a first day of school picture.)
2009: 3rd grade for Jenny, and finally Kindergarten for little Reagan
2010: 4th grade for Jenny, 1st grade for Reagan
2011: 5th grade for Jenny (last year of elementary school!) and 2nd grade for Reagan
They’ve grown so much, haven’t they? We’ve already done our back to school clothes shopping for this year, but they haven’t quite decided which outfits they’ll wear the first day of school. But come back two weeks from today and you’ll see!

Jenny turned 11 on Wednesday. And her main gift from us (besides the fun party tomorrow night with her friends) was her first cell phone. Now I know that when she asked us to give her a phone about 6 months ago, I said no because I didn’t think it was necessary yet, and I’d always said she wouldn’t get one before she turned 11 and was ready to head to middle school. I gave it a lot of thought over the last month and decided she’s ready. She seems mature enough and she understands the rules she’s been given. And if she breaks them? The phone will be taken away. Plus now I have perks like being able to call her when she’s downstairs and I’m upstairs and we don’t want to wake up the baby by yelling. We all win.

For this month’s Memories Captured and to celebrate Brinky’s 18 month birthday today, I thought I’d share pictures of each of my kids at (approximately) 18 months. Isn’t Brinkley starting to look like such a little boy?
I don’t remember every detail of what each of the girls were like at 18 months, but it’s fun to share pictures of them anyway, right?
Last but not least: Reagan.Read More
Do you remember life with an almost 17-month-old? It’s fun, isn’t it? They’re so excited about the little things they can discover. So excited they repeat them. Even if you don’t want them to.
