An End of Day Prescription

Sometimes you just have a long day, you know? As I’ve mentioned a million times before, our school days start at 5:30 because middle school starts so early. So I started the day bright and early and had an incredibly long day at work with barely a break. I came home and enjoyed dinner (fortunately ready when I got home – thank you, Crockpot!) with my family and headed right back out to a PTA board meeting. I got home at just about 9:00 and headed to bed with everyone else in the family. And I couldn’t get to sleep because I knew we were out of milk and I was going to have to go to the store early in the morning. So rather than laying there and worrying about it any longer, I decided to get up and run out to the store. I got the milk. I don’t have to dread an early morning run to the grocery store with Brinkley.

And while I was there, I saw something I knew would make me feel better. So now I’m enjoying mini Reese’s Cups and a new episode of Parenthood. And I guarantee I’ll rest better when I head back to bed in a little bit. Sometimes the prescription for the stress of a long day is a little wind down time at the end of the day – at least for me.

  1. YES. Absolutely. First of all, those minis are sinfully delicious and they’re so small they don’t cost any calories, right?! I can’t imagine how exhausted you must be. The first thing I thought when I read the beginning was “bright and early? It must be pitch dark outside!”. Ugh. Why do they make school start so dang early? But anyway. Yes. that wind-down time is absolutely essential.

  2. I usually don’t get home from work until 1 or 2 in the morning, and I always feel like I should just go to bed, but I have to wind down, too. So I always have something to eat and watch an episode of something to chill out. :) Parenthood is so good. Who is Sarah gonna choose??

    • I don’t know, Charlotte! I’m still leaning towards Hank being a better match for her, but Mark was being pretty sweet this week.

  3. My oldest daughter’s middle name is Reese and it ain’t for Witherspoon! She is 14 and I had never even heard of her when I named my daughter, but I did enjoy many many PB cups :) Still love them. I hear you though, I totally need some alone, unwind time before I go to bed no matter how tired I am.
