I thought it would be fun to participate in one of Mama Kat’s writing prompts this week, so I forced my girls to come sit down beside me last night to tell me what their favorite part of summer has been.
Up first, Reagan:
She was ready to start listing all the things she loved about summer. Here’s her list (with my comments):
Going to visit Aunt Charlotte (her most recent trip)
Going to the science museum in Raleigh (with Aunt Charlotte)
Going to the pool (high on the list for both of my girls – they’ve only been a few times with friends)
Going to Hilton Head (staying with grandparents is always fun)
Going to weddings (we’ve had two family weddings so this far this summer – one more in a week!)
The mall in Philadelphia (highlight of one of the wedding trips)
Helping Nicole get ready for her wedding (lots of fun with her newly official aunts, both named Nicole)
Art camp (their only camp of the summer, happening this week)
Watching the Olympics (fun family time, when we manage to stay up)
Playing (her secret number one – being able to play with friends outside or inside almost all day and night long in the summer!)
Jenny required a little more prompting, mostly because she happened to be mad at me.
I asked her to tell me what she’s liked best about summer. She said, “Vacations and the pool,” and tried to get away. So I listed the following additional things that she agreed with:
Fourth of July fireworks with friends (see above, treating Roman candles like Harry Potter wands)
My birthday (somehow she’d already forgotten her fun birthday party from TWO WEEKS AGO)
No school (I think she’s nervous about starting middle school)
Movies (she’s seen Avengers and the Katy Perry movie)
Art Camp (fun for all ages)
Even though I titled this post Summer Girls, I do have that sweet baby boy enjoying summer, too. Summer means he has his sisters around all the time, except, not really because they’ve gone on several trips and try to leave to play with friends as much as possible when they’re here. And when they are here they just make him mad because they try to change the TV from Dora to Pretty Little Liars. So maybe he doesn’t like that part. Something he did enjoy with his sisters (and their friends) this summer? Sprinkler day!
P.S. I stole the three pictures in this post from my own Instagrams – some of my favorites from this summer. Follow me there if you don’t.

I thought the weddings would be on their lists. They got to see their family and get dressed up. I had to laugh about Jenny’s short reply because she was mad at you. Wow! We have some years ahead of us, don’t we?!
Those mean sisters, taking his Dora away!
I had to laugh at Jenny being mad at you….have the teenage years already started!?
It certainly seems like it – she’s always got some reason to be mad. I can’t even remember why she was mad at that particular moment. There’s always some reason. And then she’s always over it the next day. Until she gets mad again.
Their summer does sound fun – so much done!! The last picture is awesome.
