Field Day #iPPP

Last Friday was Field Day at school for the girls. I think it may be one of their favorite days of the year, even if Jenny was worried this year that I would somehow miss all of her events and mad that I didn’t bring treats for her class. Brinky stayed at home with Lee so I could make an effort to run back and forth between the girls’ events and catch everything. I have to say that I think I did pretty well. Between the two of them, they were in 9 events. So, let’s see how it went.

We started the day ready and excited. Reagan was happy to have her hair up in nice pigtails. Jenny was back there being Jenny.

And then I caught her stretching, and it looked kind of like cheering.

I dropped the girls off and headed down to the field to get ready for the parade that starts Field Day. Jenny and her friends were happy to be there. They were really most excited about their tie-dyed t-shirts they made for the event.

I watched Jenny’s running relay first. Doesn’t she look fast? (They didn’t win this one though.) Then I told her that I was going to head into the gym to watch Reagan’s first event and miss her doing tug-of-war. But it was intentional, so it was okay. I think.

I found Reagan inside, where it wasn’t as hot.

She was doing the javelin toss – the javelin being a big foam thing. She won it last year, so she had high hopes. She did pretty much throw it straight up in the air, which is what it looks like she’s going to do. So no victory on that one. But everyone was still happy.

I headed back outside with Reagan’s class while Jenny’s moved into the gym. My plan was to watch Reagan’s sack race and then head inside to watch Jenny’s soccer kick. Apparently there was a break time first. This is Reagan and her best friend, Janelle, enjoying a snack.

And this is the boy Reagan has a secret crush on, Cael, with the cool mohawk.

Then it was finally time for the sack race. Reagan hopped along, the smallest hops possible. No victory, but she looked happy. Or at least determined.

I headed back into the gym and out of the heat to watch Jenny do the soccer kick. I was afraid I’d missed it, but I made it in time. Here she was waiting with her friend, Sarah.

Then my camera randomly stopped working, so I switched to using my phone for the rest of the pictures. I missed the actual soccer kicking, but they were happy girls after the event was done because they won – Jenny and one of her best friends tied to win that event.

For the last group of events both girls were outside, so it was a little easier for me to run back and forth. Jenny did over/under with her class (I think they didn’t win that one, but I couldn’t swear to it). I slacked on the pictures once the camera stopped working, but I got a few. In this one, she had clearly decided to dump water over her head to cool off.

I ran over to watch Reagan’s running relay. And by ran over, I mean walked quickly, which was pretty much how Reagan ran, or skipped.

I went back over to watch Jenny and her class do the endless hula hoop pass – or something like that. I can’t remember the exact title. They won that one though, so she finished with a victory! Then I signed Jenny and one of her friends out and we went to watch Reagan’s last event, the tug of war.

And her class won! They had to go against three other classes, but they did it. So both girls finished their day with victories and smiles on their faces. And lots of sweat. By the time they were done, we’d decided to bring three friends with us to Chick-fil-a to celebrate. And we stopped by the house to pick up Brinky to join the fun party. And then we tortured everyone in Chick-fil-a by staying there for about 2 hours. A fun day all-around. Can you believe it was my oldest baby’s last field day?

  1. Our field day is on Monday. You just made it seem like so much fun and to be honest…I have been dreading it. Mostly because the heat in MD is usually turned all the way up when this day arrives at our school and usually because I say yes to something that tears me away from seeing my girls do anything. This year, I put my foot down and am only going as an attendee and bringing snacks. I’m hoping I can divide and conquer as well as you did!

    • Good luck! I generally dread it – it’s so hot and there’s so much going on. I was like you – I normally agree to be the main coordinator for one of my girls’ classes, but this year I brought water bottles and didn’t agree to anything else so I could try to see everything. And it was a lot more fun without all the extra stress!

  2. Holy moley, that sounds like a busy day! And eep, I hope Cael or his friends don’t read your blog. ;)

    Way to go, girls!

    • I don’t think he’ll find us :) I guess I could have used some secret name for him. Oops :)

  3. Looks like everyone had a great time! I miss those days of school. It was one final get-together with all of my friends. I think maybe and adult field day is in order!

    • I loved field day – and I was far from an athlete. But I remember thinking it was such a fun day and signaled the end of the school year!
