I had a little more trouble getting rid of my baby weight this third time. I certainly did go back to work after my six week maternity leave wearing maternity clothes and hating it. But once April rolled around and the weight still wasn’t dropping off magically with no effort on my part (and I may even have started gaining again), I decided I had to do something about it. So I went back to the same diet I tried before I got pregnant –Beverly HillsWeightLossCenter. I liked it. And it worked for me to have to go weigh in and log all of my food. I rapidly lost more of the weight and got back into my regular clothes.
But then I decided I didn’t want to continue paying for the supplements and that I ought to be able to have enough willpower to continue just eating better and tracking my weight on my own. I require a little external motivation due to my noticeable lack of willpower, so I asked Lee if he would help me out by having me report my weight to him every morning. It makes me feel accountable, and he logs it into a spreadsheet (because we’re cool like that – we have a spreadsheet for meals, too!) and keeps track of my 5 day running average so we can ignore fluky days where I have a sudden drop or increase that’s probably due to water weight.
Anyway…we started this tracking in June. And I’ve done pretty well, losing all of what could be considered baby weight, though it’s done nothing for the ring of baby flab I’m still keeping. Some might say I should exercise, and I’m sure I’ll get to that. But the last couple months I started creeping back up a little bit, probably about 4 or 5 pounds. Just enough to make my clothes tighter and remind me that I need to get back on track and focus on trying to lose the other non-baby weight I still want to lose. So it’s the new year and I’m focused, right?
Then last night happened. We went to bed – and we go to bed pretty early, generally by about 9:00 on school nights. The baby gets up at 5:00, so it’s necessary, okay? Anyway, we got in bed. The girls went to bed. Brinky had been asleep for a couple hours. I assume the girls went to sleep. Lee fell asleep. What about me? Well, I was busy playing Angry Birds on my Kindle Fire for awhile because I was on a roll. I obviously had to keep playing the way I was moving through levels.
And then I still couldn’t get to sleep. You know why? Because I saw a pin on pinterest last week for peanut butter hot chocolate, LIKE A HOT LIQUIDY REESE’S CUP!
And I hadn’t been able to get it out of my mind since that time. So what did I do? Well, I got out of bed to make that hot chocolate. What else could I do?
I brought my laptop into the kitchen and gathered all the ingredients.
And I opened up the calculator on my conversion and website that would convert the decimals into fractions so I could figure out how to make a single serving out of what seemed to be about a four serving recipe. I’m seriously cool, right?
So I got to work making this deliciousness.
I got impatient at the end when I was supposed to simmer it for 4 or 5 minutes and just went ahead and took it off and poured it into my mug.
Shhh…it’s Lee’s awesome mug, made for him by Jenny. Don’t tell. I needed a big mug to fit all the yumminess though.
And just in case it wasn’t healthy enough, I decided to add some cool whip (after eating some directly out of the container – it’s light!) and some chocolate chips.
Doesn’t it look SO GOOD?
And it was. It was a little chunky, probably because I didn’t simmer it quite long enough. But it did in fact taste like a hot liquid Reese’s cup. And I really enjoyed it for a late night (if you consider 10:00 late night, and I do) treat while watching TV and reading blogs.
So now circling back to the beginning and the title of this post? I was a little concerned about this morning’s weigh in after what was certainly not a low-fat treat. So how’d I do? Down 1 ½ pounds since yesterday. It may be a fluke. But I’m choosing to believe that it’s the peanut butter hot chocolate, and not the fact that we’ve stuck with our no fast food for the month of January resolution for 11 whole days now, that caused that weight loss. I may just have to make it again.
The first picture of the pin links through to pinterest and the recipe if you, too, want to make this delicious hot chocolate.
I’m linking up with Lovelinks again this week because it’s awesome. And if Erica gets 50 bloggers to link up, she’s going to give away something awesome – go link up!

Wow. That looks so yummy. I think I’m going to have to pin it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks – it was delicious!
Oh my goodness. That looks like heaven in a mug
It tasted like it, too
This post makes me so happy! It sounds like you enjoyed every drop of that liquidy delicious goodness — it sounds so yummy. And a big congrats on the weight loss.
As an aside, I’m re-reading Group 6 and reliving my love of bad teenage novels — thanks again!!
Trust me – I was so tempted to reread it before I sent it to you. I may have to get it myself. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
That looks absolutely scrumptious…like I want to swim in it scrumptious
Oh my heavenly goodness. I am bookmarking this page!!
Oh I need to make this! Reese’s are my weakness!
You are running my diet, lol as I am eating a Big Mac!! This sounds absolutely fantastic! Hope you had a great week!
Now that sounds like my kind of diet!
I hope the chocolate didn’t keep you up any longer and you were still able to squeak out of bed at 5? I also go to bed pretty early and get up around 5:30 am. (before my 3 kiddos get up!) to work a couple hours. Sometimes if I make it a later night, that is WAY easier said then done though!
I didn’t stay up too too late. I went to bed about 11:30. 5 came around a little earlier than I’d like, but it wasn’t too bad. And the hot chocolate was totally worth it. I actually enjoy that morning time before the whole house is awake to do my own thing.
Okay, this looks dangerous- but soooo yummy.(Pinerest why do you do this?)
I’ve been good about keeping off most of the weight I lost last year but somehow(Thanksgiving, Christmas, baked gifts) I put on five pounds recently. Trying to get motivated again to start my workouts again and all that jazz.
Congrats on the 1 1/2 pound loss!
I know. I love pinterest so much, but sometimes I think it’s evil! I’m going to start playing Wii dance games again – that’s a fun way to get in some exercise with my kids! Then hopefully I’ll get rid of my extra 5 pounds (or so)!
Liquid Reese’s? I’m SO there!
It was so good – you should try it!
I think you deserved that treat!!
It looks soooo good.
It was. And it was a great treat – along with the time spent by myself watching bad TV
Looks like it turned out well and being a tech enthusiast, I love that you brought your laptop to the kitchen!
I’ve tried to start using the Kindle Fire in the kitchen instead, but the battery was dead right at that moment
Holy cow. I wonder how many Weight Watchers points that stuff has. I haven’t had peanut butter in…well….how long have I been on Weight Watchers?!
Kudos on the weight loss! (Psst…I don’t exercise either. I should probably get on that.)
I have actually managed to resist making it again now that I did it once. We ordered a new Wii (ours quit working) so I can start playing my dance games on the Wii again – that’s my favorite kind of exercise!
I also have not lost the baby weight from my last baby, and for some reason, I’m more ok with it than I was with my first. And that looks delicious!
Thanks. It doesn’t bother me nearly as much with the third as it did with the first either.
I once lost five pound eating nothing but chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. I think that sometimes, if you listen to your body, it has a way of working itself out. Well, not LITERALLY working itself out. You know what I mean.
A chocolate chip cookie dough diet sounds like one I could really get behind.
I don’t really like peanut butter. BUT…..my hubby loves it, and I’m pretty sure I could trade this in for a massage. Thank you so much!
Now that’s a smart idea!
Oh like I really needed to read about this! I’m gonna have to pin that. *sigh
Just make it once
I’ve been fine not making it again since then. Or mostly fine with not making it again, at least.
This is the kind of diet I can totally stick with!
Me, too!
I’m liking this diet of yours a whole lot. Reese Cups are my favorite!!!
My son is 26 months and I still need to lose some baby weight. And I’m the father. Sounds like you are on a great path. You deserve a treat here and there to make it all worthwhile. Keep up the good work!
Thanks – I can’t say I’m trying that hard, obviously
Looks divine! ANything with Reeses is a go for me!
